Rosalind has received the Presidential Volunteer Award for service in excess
of 250 hours and the Morgan County's Heart ofthe Community Award.
She worked 41hours a week in the Summer to avoid interfering with her school
work to secure funds for college applications, fees and to cover the family's health insurance bill.
Her mother speaks no English, only Thai, and has been unable to secure ajob. Her
father is a pipe fitter who struggles to care for the family due to numerous layoffs.
Rosalind is detennined to make a difference in the world and plans to serve
as a volunteer in Thailand's free clinics after observing how poor the Thai health
care system was in providing adequate medical treatment for her grandparents.
After she obtains her degree, she wants to also work in the emergency and intensive
care unit and return to UAB to obtain a Master of Science in Nursing specializing
in adult acute care.
Her letters of recommendation describe her as a model student who leads by example -
"her strength lies within her ability to help others with a variety of problems."
