Hokes Bluff High Senior Receives Smith Scholarship Award
Katy M. Alford of Hokes Bluff High School has received the prestigious Smith Scholarship Award. Katy, who has a 4.0 GPA and 30 ACT, will be attending the University of Alabama at Birmingham to study Psychology and Mathematics.
The Smith Scholarship is not singularly focused on test scores or grades. Instead, the Foundation seeks students who have demonstrated a desire to give back to others through volunteer work or assistance to family, while remaining actively involved in their schools and communities.
Katy excels in sports, playing both volleyball and basketball. She was selected as Girls State Delegate and received the Presidential Volunteer Service Award, Voice of Democracy Bronze Award, Perfect Attendance and Basketball JV All County Award. Katy is a member of FCCLA, the Beta Club, SGA and the Science Club. She also volunteers with the Special Olympics, Lions Club, Rainbow Church of Christ and the Etowah County Animal Shelter.
The Smith Scholarship Foundation is the largest privately funded scholarship program in the State of Alabama.
