Boyle. Elizabeth-1On May 11, 2013, the Smith Scholarship Foundation, established by the late Mignon C. Smith, awarded seventeen (17) scholarships to Alabama high school seniors for attendance at in-state universities.

Mignon C. Crockard addressed the new recipients, challenging each to take advantage of the award and remain true to the Founder’s ideals of individuality and giving back to one’s community.

The Board of Directors of the Foundation honored Ms. Crockard by presenting her with her great-grandmother’s portrait and an antique silver keepsake box owned by the late Mignon C. Smith.

Ms. Smith established the Foundation in 2005, endowing it with an initial gift of $10 million, and designating it as the beneficiary of a $30 million Charitable Remainder Trust.  The Foundation is the largest private scholarship provider in the State of Alabama.  Over 130 scholarships have been awarded since its inception.  http://www.smithscholarships.com
